    Summer’s Over, Let’s Talk Hacking!

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Saunacast! We’re kicking things off by shaking off the vacation sand. Sven’s back from a sunny trip to France, while Andreas has been hacking in the Netherlands. The biggest news, however, is that Sven has officially joined the 21st century with a brand-new fiber connection. The future is now, and it is fast. (but lagging with 160ms latency)

    Let’s talk about WHY2025!

Speaking of the future, we’re looking back at the biggest event this year: WHY2025.

If you’re not familiar, WHY2025 is part of a legendary Dutch hacker camp series, that happened from August 8th to 12th, 2025. This isn’t just another conference; it’s the tenth event in a series that stretches all the way back to 1989 (GHP, HAR, OHM, SHA, MCH, and more). It’s a proper milestone and a must-attend event for anyone in the hacker and maker community.

Andreas joined a village this time, the „Flying Objects“ — a cozy corner of the campground with four tents, a communal kitchen, and, of course, co-located with groups that tested out cool flying objects.

Between the tech talks and creative chaos, Sven talks about upon the Kristallmarathon, a half-marathon that takes place in a salt mine. Because, why not? A link is in the shownotes, and chances are you’ll be able to meet Sven there.

As far as WHY2025 goes, it’s community organized.

The conference had a Call for Papers ! Any one could submit his project or an idea to share, and had a chance to submit it, and to get into the official schedule.

A Quick Warning About the Badge

The conference badge is always a highlight, but there’s a serious heads-up for this one. Early versions have been identified as a potential fire hazard. Please be careful and read the community warning first published on the Revspace forum. For official info, keep an eye on the badge wiki.

    The Future of A2A Communication

Changing gears, we explored a topic that’s getting us really excited: Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication. This is a concept we’re also digging into on our sister project, #labstalk. We briefly discussed Gibberlink and how it could be the future of how autonomous systems talk to each other.

Want to go down the rabbit hole? We highly recommend this video:

    Come Say Hi!

Finally, a little housekeeping. Our next Munich Tech Sauna is happening on September 11th at Aquariush. Come hang out, chat about tech, and relax. We’d love to see you there

    Intro

Dolomiti Bike Day & Sport Scheck RUN HM

Sven participated in the Dolomiti Bike Day and the SportScheck RUN Half Marathon, with a final time of 1.46h.

Andrej Karpathy: „Software Is Changing (Again)“

Andrej Karpathy’s video discusses the evolution of software from Software 1.0 (traditional code) to Software 2.0 (neural networks), now moving into Software 3.0 with Large Language Models (LLMs). He likens LLMs to new types of computers, programmable with natural language, and compares them to utilities, fabs, and even operating systems that will eventually move to personal devices.

Karpathy highlights the „psychology“ of LLMs, noting their vast knowledge but also cognitive deficits like hallucinations and „anterograde amnesia“ (limited context window). He identifies key opportunities:

    • Partial Autonomy Apps: Keeping humans in the loop to speed up the generation-verification process (e.g., Perplexity, cursor).
    • Vibe Coding: Making software development more accessible by working in small, verifiable chunks.
    • Accessible Digital Infrastructure: Creating LLM-readable summaries and documentation (e.g., llms.txt similar to robots.txt).

The future, he suggests, involves a decade of developing human-augmenting agents, acknowledging LLM fallibility and focusing on human-AI collaboration.

    Hacker Event this Summer

    • Why 2025: The tenth quadrennial hacker camp in the Netherlands since 1989.

    Events & Tech News

    • Google Cloud Summit: Focused on sovereignty, air-gapped offerings, and AI models.
    • Meta XR Event: Discussed B2B use cases, ecosystem, platform, distribution frameworks, and education concepts for employee training.
    • Quantum Cryptography: Apple and Microsoft are adding post-quantum cryptography support (ML-KEM) to their operating systems this fall for TLS connections.

    Housekeeping

A hiking trip is planned for August, join us at Munich Tech Sauna Hike https://lu.ma/dras7lyo.
